| Thallus verrucose to subsquamulose, bullate, slightly effigurate at the margins, yellowish white to yellowish grey, epruinose, glossy. Soredia absent. Prothallus not visible. Apothecia immersed when immature, becoming sessile to slightly constricted at the base, 0.4–1.2 mm diam.; disc pale to dark red-brown, epruinose; margin concolorous with the thallus, thin, entire, ±verrucose to crenulate. Cortex hyaline, ±gelatinous, inspersed with small crystals, 15–25 µm thick laterally and 20–30 µm thick basally. Amphithecium with large crystals insoluble in KOH (pulicaris-type). Parathecium hyaline, without crystals or with very few small crystals, 10–15 µm thick. Epihymenium reddish brown, K–, with numerous small crystals (pulicaris-type) soluble in KOH, c. 10–15 µm thick. Hymenium hyaline. Hypothecium and subhymenium hyaline, inspersed with oil droplets. Paraphyses sparingly branched and thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 8.0–13.0 × 5.0–8.0 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C–, Pd+ pale orange; containing atranorin (major) and chloroatranorin (minor). |  |

| Lecanora galactiniza grows on siliceous rocks and soil in exposed, well-lit habitats in W.A., S.A., N.S.W., A.C.T., Vic. and Tas. Also in southern New Zealand, Central and South America, and southern Africa. | ||
